| Marwo at the School Gate
A Somali women’s radio drama
recording group The soap opera being developed by the group is centred around the main character Marwo and her friends that she meets when collecting the children from school. (Marwo has a double meaning in Somali language: it is the name of a woman but also is used as a term of respect when referring to a group of women.) The stories deal with some of the cultural, social, linguistic and environmental issues that Somali women and children have to adjust to in British society. It is also a vehicle for storytelling, traditional songs, and music. The radio programmes will be broadcast by appropriate radio stations and available on cassette.
